The very first 'First Edition' - published in six monthly parts in The Cosmopolitan from November 1900 to April 1901 preceding the first UK publication in The Strand which started in December 1900. Illustrated throughout by E. Hering. The six issues are bound together in a leather half-binding of burgundy leather stamped in gilt on the spine with sides of purple cloth boards. The cloth shows some damp staining and the leather is rubbed at the edges. The pagination of the six issues is continuous from 1 to 680. Age browning to the endpapers and a very light damp stain across the head of the text pages. An added bonus for collectors is the first edition of Stephen Crane's short story A Dark Brown Dog in the issue of March 1901. Very Good .
